Menlo mainstay: Ann’s Coffee Shop

Breakfast and lunch spot Ann’s Coffee Shop has been a fixture on Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Menlo Park for 63 years, probably making it the champ of Menlo’s mainstays. It’s changed  little since it first opened in 1946, using the original pancake recipe and still offering real milkshakes and daily specials Monday through Friday.  Current owners George and Nicki Paplos (son/mother combo) took over in January 2008. There are few spots better equipped to offer a vintage coffee shop vibe – probably the reason David Harris shot his short movie, The Coffee House, on location there.

Insider’s tip  : the restaurants’s website says a free cup of coffee is given to each first time diner.
