If you’re trolling down Alameda de las Pulgas between Valparaiso and Woodside Road, you can miss Country Corner, a great little market at the corner of Alameda and Monterey. A mainstay of the West Menlo community for many years, Country Corner has a great deli in back and makes the best sandwiches (in our opinion) that you can find in the area. The construction workers that show up a lunchtime help prove our point – they know great food and value when they see it.
We used to live just a few blocks away and always enjoyed an evening stroll up to the Corner to grab an ice cream bar for the walk home on a warm summer day !
Here’s an Almanac story from 2002 with more background and history on the Corner – along with a sandwich recommendation – the chicken filet with melted cheese and avocado on Dutch crunch bread! Also, checkout the Corner’s great Yelp reviews.
Next time you’re heading north on Alameda in West Menlo, be sure stop by, say hi, and try out a great sandwich!
