Plethera of special blessings at local churches this Sunday

It’s easy for humans to get blessed at any number of local churches every Sunday. But what about some of the non-human things that are important to us? There are two opportunities this weekend, both offered by Episcopal churches.

“Remembering the patroness of cyclists, the Madonna del Ghisallo, Lake Como, Italy,” St Bede’s – which due to its Sand Hill Rd. location gets gets passed by hundreds of cyclists daily – is hosting its annual bike blessing Sunday, Oct. 17 at 9:00 and 10:00 am. The Rev. Jane McDougle says having a blessing shows support of healthy athletic journeying and environmentally sound choices and acknowledges the cyclist’s right to a safe passage.

On the other side of Menlo, Trinity Church is offering a special animal blessing in honor of St. Francis in the church courtyard on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 pm. Those animals no longer living can be honored  by writing down prayers for them and tying them to a tree near the church. Please leash/cage pets appropriately. Trinity is located at the corner of Ravenswood and Laurel.
