There’s a new vendor at Menlo’s weekly farmers market. Karin Johnson, shown here discussing wedding cake options with a young couple and mother of the bride, has been baking over 10 years and offers a wide assortment of cakes, cookies and pastries at her large stall across from Pietro Parravano at the Chestnut St. end of the market.
“I’m here on a tryout,” she said, adding that it’s her intention to be a regular. “I’m at the Palo Alto farmers market on Saturdays and Menlo seemed like a logical next step.”
A graduate of the Culinary Institute at Greystone in St. Helena, she’s worked at San Ysidro Ranch and Citronelle in Santa Barbara and Pinot Blanc in St. Helena. Most recently she was pastry chef at Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland before setting off on her own to sell directly at farmers markets, assisted by her mother Sherry (assistant pastry chef) and father.
The addition of Karin’s desserts makes it possible to get start-to-finish meal ingredients at the weekly market.
