School district seeking community input Thursday, 2/10 as superintendent search gets underway

by Chrisie Wendin on February 4, 2011

With superintendent Ken Ranella set to retire at the end of June, the school board’s search for a new district leader has begun. According to a memo issued today by Board of Education President Maria Hilton, “The first step in a successful search is an opportunity for the Board to receive input from the District Community about the desired characteristics of the next Superintendent to lead our outstanding District.”

To do just that, the board will conduct a series of meetings, beginning next week, to solicit input from interested parties, including parents, district employees, and broader community members. The meetings will be facilitated by Leadership Associates, the executive search firm that has been retained by the board.

Parents and community members are invited to participate in a pair of open forums next Thursday, Feb. 10 — at 12:00 pm at Oak Knoll School Library in Menlo Park or at 6:30 pm at Encinal School Library in Atherton. The varied meeting times and locations were selected to encourage the broadest participation.

But for those unable to attend the sessions, input is welcome by e-mail, letter, or phone to Leadership Associates, which can be reached at,, (949) 461-9119 or (909) 985-7814.
