Parent volunteer Jill Olson is helping get the word out about a new orchestra being formed at Menlo-Atherton for the 2011-2012 school year, reaching out, in particular to current eighth graders. She emails: “Violin, viola, cello and bass players are invited to apply (wind players are also welcome). The M-A Orchestra will meet four days a week (three 50 minute periods and one long block period). It will perform 4-5 concerts per year as well attending CMEA events and may also travel to a music festival.

“Interested musicians should have at least one year of playing experience and preferably two. Anyone who doesn’t have two years of playing experience in a school group or community youth orchestra should plan to audition for M-A band director, Kent Kurrus (pictured). The school requires a minimum of 25 current or incoming students to express their interest in becoming orchestra members in order for the program to go forward in the fall.

“Contact Mr. Kurrus to express your interest by email at  kkurrus@seq.org or by phone at 650-322-5311. Your response is required to make this program live in the fall!”
