Overnight precipitation is just a drop in the bucket

by Bill Russ on March 14, 2011

snail after rain Only .1" in my gauge this morning, an accumulation from yesterday's showers and overnight precipitation. This brings my season-to-date total to 14.45". With the rain season dwindling, the chances of a 18"-20" total are fading. I count that as normal. Last year we were at 17.55" at this point en route to 21.39". Other low years were 2009 at 14.85", 2007 at 8.2", and 2004 at 14.5". I see lots of umbrellas in the Mercury forecast so perhaps we will be surprised. Editor's note: what the moisture did bring out was a ton of snails marching across wet pathways. Photo by Linda Hubbard Gulker
