street art posters in west Menlo Park

Returning from the Farmers Market this morning, we spotted a string of identical posters attached to telephone poles and trees along Middle Ave in Menlo Park. We discovered that  “xaler” has some Muggle association, but this really looks much more like “relax” spelled backwards. Anyone know who the artist or what the meaning is?

In praise of chartreuse for perpetually spring gardens

Thumbnail image for In praise of chartreuse for perpetually spring gardens

My writing spot is at a window looking out at an adolescent Robinia pseudoacacia Frisia which I planted about 10 years ago. Although we are approaching August, the chartreuse colored foliage is fresh, making the garden […]

Anyone at SLAC last Sunday might be forgiven for thinking it had been turned into a dog park – one SLACer was even heard to remark, “Hey, SLAC’s having a Puppy Bowl!” – but the more than 80 dogs and their handlers in attendance at the California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) regional workout were all […]

Catching up with musician Sarah Ghandour

It was a year ago that we first sat down with accomplished cellist Sarah Ghandour. She was participating then — as she is now — in the Music@Menlo Chamber Music Institute. A year can make a  big difference in a young musicians’ life. In Sarah’s case, it’s been about trying out different ways to make […]

Latin sounds bring salsa dancers to Fremont Park

Taking our picnic basket and lawn chair out of the trunk of our car, a man yelled across the street, “Hey, are  you going to the salsa concert? I’m a salsa instructor and looking for someone to dance with!” It was less a pick up line than the enthusiasm shown by the dozen or so […]
