Coach Parks life to be celebrated at M-A on Sept. 17

“A Celebration of Giving” is the theme set for a celebration of the life of Coach Ben Parks at Menlo-Atherton High School from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, Sept. 17. The legendary coach died in his sleep on August 19.

Beginning at 11:00, a short documentary on the Coach will be shown continuously in the Performing Arts Center. At 11:30 am on Coach Parks Field, there will be a series of remembrances give by M-A alums including Grant Anderson, Rich Haughton, Barry Hyde, Steve Westly, Reggie Dupee, Andres Pech, and Marc Rogers as well as former M-A Athletic Director Pam Wimberly, NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott and family members. After the field program, attendees are invited to go to Ayers Gym for a media show and where they will be able to record short video tributes.

Donations in Coach Parks’ memory can be made to the Coach Parks Community Fund, Philanthropic Venture Foundation, 1222 Preservation Park Way, Oakland, CA 94612-1201. Online remembrances can be posted on the Remembering Coach Ben Parks Facebook page.
