Elaine Hammond of Menlo Park has been appointed to fill the judicial seat vacated by Judge Edward Jellen beginning in February, according to a release issued by the 9th Circuit.

“Ms. Hammond is an experienced and highly capable attorney,” Chief Judge Alex Kozinski said in a statement. “We are pleased to have her join the bankruptcy bench.”

Hammond’s background includes a lengthy stint at the San Francisco-based law firm Friedman, Dumas & Springwater, where she has worked since 2003. In 2008, she became partner in the firm, focusing on the representation of business debtors, trustees, and secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy cases. Hammond received her law degree in 1998 from the University of North Carolina.
