Blockbuster on the Alameda is closing!

Connie Sutton writes: “Boo hoo hoo. Blockbuster on the Alameda is closing. We went to return a DVD today and there are closing signs in the window. DVDs are all on sale, though we couldn’t find any deals. Boo hoo hoo. It always seemed busy. No more browsing for movies…”

Another sign of these increasingly digital times? Maybe we can get that great little West Menlo hardware store back? The one the closed in that same block over ten years ago?

Yes, when I was a kid in the 50’s my dad used to take me into that hardware store and introduce me to the owners and staff. I am verily sure most of them have passed away.
There used to be a slide, in the back inside the store, that the delivery guys would use, to deliver all the stuff, that the store would put out on the shelves to sell. As kids, we would sneak back there and go up and down the slide when we thought, know one was looking. Great fun! when your 5 yrs. olds.
That was back in the day when you could buy a home on Cloud avenue for around $10,000.00.
