Sing out for literacy

Project Read-Menlo Park is having its first Open Mic fundraiser on Sunday, March 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Café Zoe (1929 Menalto Ave.) in Menlo Park

Bay area jazz pianist Bennet Roth-Newell will emcee the event. This is an opportunity for community members to showcase their musical talent in front of a live audience and support Project Read.

Café Zoe will donate 50% of food and beverage sales all day to Project Read-Menlo Park. In addition, there will be several silent auction items including San Francisco Giants tickets, a gourmet wine basket, restaurant gift certificates, and original art by Nidhi Chanani.

Project Read has been serving the Menlo Park community with a free literacy program since 1985. It is funded by the City of Menlo Park, Friends of the Menlo Park Library, Literacy Partners (the program’s nonprofit board) and local foundations and individuals. With the recent loss of State funding, Project Read is asking its supporters to invest in its mission to eradicate illiteracy.

Currently, there are over 60 volunteer tutors, 25 other volunteers and 125 adult students in Project Read. For more information call the Project Read-Menlo Park office at 650-330-2525, email rlroth@menlopark.org or visit the website.
