For the eighth year in a row, the Relay for Life will be taking place in Menlo Park’s Burgess Park from August 4 to 5. A highlight of the event each year is the lighting of luminaries in support or memory of a person who is living with or died from cancer, as well as to honor those who are survivors. This morning at the Farmers Market adults were staffing a booth to raise awareness and donations while youngsters were working to make the luminaries.
At the Relay event, teams of people camp out at Burgess, taking turns walking or running around the track. Each team has a participant on the track at all time for a period of 24 hours, because “cancer never sleeps.” More about this year’s Relay is available online.
