Volunteers work to clean up San Francisquito Creek

Three areas of Menlo Park are slated for clean up as part of the California Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept 15. Organizers are seeking volunteers to work at Bedwell Bayfront Park and two stretches of San Francisquito Creek.

Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) is an annual beach and waterway clean up held on the third Saturday of September. It is California’s largest volunteer event and brings community awareness to cleaning up and protecting our marine environment.

San Mateo Countywide Water Pollution Prevention Program (SMCWPPP) coordinates CCD in San Mateo County in conjunction with the California Coastal Commission, Ocean Conservancy, and many local partners.

Cleanups are held all over San Mateo County beaches, creeks, rivers, waterways and neighborhoods. Last year, over 4,000 volunteers collected more than 25,000 pounds of trash and recyclables at over 30 sites around the County. More information about volunteering this year is available online.
