Jim Newton of TechShop Menlo Park sent us an email with updates about efforts underway to find a new makerspace:
“We have made progress in identifying a couple of spaces that would work well for a permanent facility. Once we narrow down the choices and determine that our qualifications are met, we will let you know the timeline. For updates and additional information about the move, please visit our current Menlo Park location page. Here, you will find links to the presentation from the information meetings and details on how to become a lender. (Please note: The loan program is limited to only California residents that are accredited investors.)
“Another way you can support the Menlo Park location is by participating in the Indiegogo campaign that went live earlier this week.
“The purpose of the Indiegogo campaign is to quickly crowdfund the capital we need to get into a new space with minimum disruption to our members and to ensure access to a permanent state-of-the-art makerspace. While TechShop is rapidly expanding, we are still a privately held company and, like many of our members, still a startup. The TechShop community is the reason for our success. Your participation and support make it possible for TechShop to grow, which in turn makes it possible for more people to build their dreams and launch their own businesses.
“As a business, TechShop depends on both passion and community. The community aspect of our business includes crowdfunding, which not only allowed us to meet the demand for new TechShop locations in the past, but also made it possible for more people to participate in building the business. Our model has always been participatory and community-based, and the Indiegogo campaign – which includes products made at TechShop by loyal members – continues that tradition as we build the new TechShop Menlo Park.
“We look forward to adding more made at TechShop and other fun perks to the campaign, so stay tuned – and tell your friends about the campaign!”
