‘Tis the season of giving at Menlo-Atherton High School. With the Canned-Food Drive completed, students of the Camping Club have taken the initiative to continue the holiday spirit by sponsoring a jacket drive.
From now until the last day of finals, December 19th, they are collecting jackets and sweaters for all ages in B-21. They will take that they collect to the Ecumenical Hunger Program in East Palo Alto, which will distribute them to families in need.
Junior Eliza Fitz went to teacher Jonathan Senigaglia with the idea of starting the Jacket Drive. As long as there is a club to support a cause, a student at M-A can fundraise or collect donations through the school.
With the temperature dropping and many in our community struggling to make ends meet, the Camping Club urges students to donate their outgrown and/or unused jackets and sweaters, and welcomes donations from the community.
Fitz reports, “Right now we have 52 jackets and sweaters, yet we are aiming for around 500.”
But what is a charitable effort without a pathos-filled slogan? In the words of the Jacket Drive coordinators, after donating “You will feel as warm as you are making someone else.”
Jackets and sweater can be dropped off in room B-21 anytime during school hours through December 19.
