The 6th annual Ride & Yoga for Ravenswood will be held Sunday, October 5th. Proceeds support Ravenswood Family Health Center services such as prenatal and postpartum mental health care for low-income moms as well as baby essentials such as car seats.
Atherton resident Julie Brody (pictured left), founder of the event has been involved with Ravenswood for the past decade. “Our children went to school with kids from East Palo Alto and one day I met a Ravenswood Board member [Melieni Talakai, pictured right] and learned about the Ravenswood Family Health Center.” she said. “Many people living right here in our community don’t receive the healthcare needed because they can’t afford it.
“As a nurse, I loved patient care and reassuring people during their hospital stay. Raising funds for Ravenswood is an extension of that and organizing this health-related, active fundraiser is a natural fit. It’s rewarding to make a difference right here in our community with a healthy activity for both body and mind.”
Participants can choose from a 50-mile coastal excursion or a 30-mile ride through Portola Valley. New this year is the option of two 90-minute outdoor yoga sessions. All the events begin and end at the Brody home in Atherton (210 Park Lane). A light breakfast with gourmet coffee starts the day, and the events conclude with an artisan brunch and refreshments.
Julie wanted to acknowledge the contributions of corporate sponsor Wells Fargo Bank as well as Avalon Yoga and cyclists Gordon Bliss and Laura Stern, who will lead the rides.
“The ride has a real community component,” said Julie. “It’s more personal than showing up at a parking lot and going for a ride.”
Registration for both rides and two yoga sessions is available online.
