“Treasures Revealed”, a joint exhibition by new gallery members Shaowei Liu and Yvonne Newhouse, is featured at the Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park from January 1-31. The exhibition of watercolor paintings highlights scenes of brief but precious moments of life, such as clouds over snowy peaks or children playing.

Shaowei Liu, of Mountain View, is a watercolor and 3D game artist and instructor. She paints what inspires joy and good feelings in herself and the beholder, including plants, birds, and children. In this exhibit, she will present her paintings of children, most of whom are the children of her coworkers and friends. Some are depicted as little elves or forest creatures, while others are engaged in sports or musical activities. As the originals were all given to the proud parents, high quality prints will be exhibited.

Yvonne Newhouse, of San Mateo, brings attention to some of winter’s hidden treasures in this exhibit. An avid hiker both on Bay Area trails and in the Sierra Nevada backcountry, Yvonne has witnessed and recorded many beautiful vistas, interpreting them using transparent watercolor. A native of the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada, she is in awe of the stature and grandness of mountains and snowy mountain passes of California’s high country.

A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, January 10, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Gallery is located in the Allied Arts Guild on Arbor Drive.
