“Do you remember (the old Menlo Park?)” is hit Facebook group with folks who grew up here

by Linda Hubbard on February 11, 2015

Philip Peters’ Facebook group, Do you remember (the old Menlo Park?), strikes a chord with people who grew up here, so we thought it high time we caught up with Philip to learn how it all came about.

He told us that he’d seen a similar group dedicated to Palo Alto, and given that lots of Menlo memories spill into Palo Alto, he posted something about the town he grew up in — Menlo Park. That got his wrist slapped (so to speak) for being off topic.

So, he thought, why not do something specific for Menlo Park?

Philip now lives in Southern California, where he is a musician/songwriter whose work can be found online. But he grew up in west Menlo, attending Los Lomitas, La Loma, La Entrada and Woodside High School.

“When I first put up the Facebook page, it just kind of sat there for awhile,” he explained. “The only people who knew about it were me and three friends. Then, all of a sudden, it took off and kind of snowballed. Now I don’t know most of the people who post on it.

“I write the music I perform, which can be described as alternative rock. Writing music got me thinking about my childhood in Menlo Park. Guess a lot of other people do, too.”
