Facebook and the Rotary Club of Menlo Park are co-hosting a Book Giveaway day at the Belle Haven Community Garden (pictured) on Saturday, October 10, from noon to 3:00 pm. The community garden is located at at 261 Ivy Dr., Menlo Park. The event is free to all Menlo Park residents.
Gently used books for ages 1 to 18 will be given out to all children who attend the event. There will be live music, food, children activities, and an ugliest vegetable contest. Residents are also welcome to drop off book donations at the event. All books that are not given away at the end of the day will be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula and the Ravenswood School District.
The Belle Haven Community Garden was established a year ago by the Rotary Club of Menlo Park with Facebook as one of the major sponsors. Other sponsors include Lyngso Garden Materials, Farmscape, Bavarian Nordic, and the City of Menlo Park.
Vegetable beds were given to local residents to grow their own vegetables. “We want all Menlo Park residents to have a chance to see this wonderful project, so we decided to partner with Facebook to hold a fun family event at the garden where everyone can enjoy some good food and music while promoting literacy for children,” says Michelle Tsui, President of the Rotary Club of Menlo Park.
