The Menlo Park Library is hosting a community speaker from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco to give an entertaining, educational, multi-media presentation exploring an important new acquisition of contemporary art from the Souls Grown Deep Foundation. It takes place on March 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Historically marginalized, patronized, or promoted with reductive terms such as folk, naive, or outsider, these artists have only recently garnered new exhibition opportunities, museum representation, and foundation and collector support, as well as critical and popular acclaim.

Experience:
– Compelling pieces from self-taught artists
– Art addressing profound and persistent issues in American society
– Powerful testaments to African-American cultural resilience and survival
– Works embodying universal human values

This presentation is in conjunction with the special exhibition Revelations: Art from the African American South, on display at the de Young Museum from June 3, 2017 – April 1, 2018.

This event is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Menlo Park Library.
