Archive of Scott Loftesness

Scott Loftesness has lived in Menlo Park for over 15 years and is a big fan of most things Menlo. By day, he’s a payments strategy consultant at Glenbrook Partners (on Alma St. across from the Menlo Park Caltrain station). Most days, he frequents Cafe Borrone for either breakfast or lunch – and works out down the block at Axis when he can. During their morning walks together, Scott learned a tremendous amount about photography from the late Chris Gulker– especially about the power of black and white! You can find Scott's personal blog at http://sjl.us and follow him on Twitter as @sjl.

Scott has written 127 article(s) for InMenlo.

Looking at Hawaii in Monochrome

When we think of photos taken in Hawaii, those colorful picture postcard-like images are what usually come to mind. On a recent vacation visit to the big island of Hawaii, I veered off in a different direction – looking for opportunities to portray the island in monochrome. These images were all shot using a Nikon […]

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Yesterday, I headed up from Menlo Park to San Francisco to shoot some photos at San Francisco’s annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade. San Francisco goes all out for this parade every year – but, not being Irish, I hadn’t ever tried to see it up close. Turns out I had a great time. I got […]

Casting a photographic lens into the heart of Havana

In late January, I was very fortunate to be able to participate in a week long people-to-people cultural exchange to Havana, Cuba led by a team from Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. My good friend and photo buddy Doug Kaye had been suggesting we try to get to Cuba in 2013 — and, thanks to Doug, we […]

Did you know that here are a couple of other railroads in Menlo Park — other than Caltrain. One, in West Menlo, is a private “live steam” layout. Another is a real Menlo Park treasure – the West Bay Model Railroad Association. Located in the old Southern Pacific freight building just south of the Menlo Park […]

Remembering Ansel – and Chris!

Printed in Italy? Not what I might have expected. Maybe printed in Hong Kong, or China, or …? The wonderful new book about Ansel Adams by Andrea Stillman is – yep – printed in Italy. Published by long time Adams’ publisher Little, Brown – I wonder why it was “printed in Italy”? But, that’s just […]
