Post image for Portola Art Gallery celebrates 10+ years at Allied Arts Guild with afternoon of art, wine and music

To commemorate its 10+ years at the Allied Arts Guild, the Portola Art Gallery is hosting an afternoon of art, wine, and live music on Saturday, November 3, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Works of all the gallery’s artists will be featured.

In addition, throughout the month of November, visitors will get a 10% discount on all artwork, including unframed prints, silk scarves, books, and ceramics ( excluding cards).

Founded in 1981 to showcase the work of local artists, the Portola Art Gallery was originally located in Portola Valley’s turn-of-the-century little red schoolhouse in the town center off of Portola Road. In 1996, the gallery was moved next to the town’s library, where it remained until relocating to Allied Arts Guild in 2006.

As a cooperative gallery, the 17 members — all from the Bay Area — share in the duties and costs of running the gallery. New artists are juried in as members leave.

The artists include: Larry Calof (photography), Steve Curl (watercolor), Inna Cherneykina (pastel and oil), Frances Freyberg (photography), Marsha Heimbecker (oil), Oksana Johnson (oil), Misako Kambe (ceramics), Alan McGee (photography), Terry McMahon (acrylic), Yvonne Newhouse (watercolor), Jerome Peters (acrylic), Jan Prisco (pastel and oil), Linda Salter (pastel and oil), Teresa Silvestri (watercolor), Jared Sines (oil), Mary K. Stahl (pastel and oil), and Barbara von Haunalter (watercolor and oil).

“It’s very rewarding to to have people come in and admire the art, even if they don’t buy anything,” said Mary Stahl, who, along with Linda Salter, serves as the gallery’s co-directors. “It’s particularly true because we’re off the beaten track.

“That said, we’re in a historic place. This space was once Ansel Adams’ studio!”
