Community winter solstice service – Taizé style – at 5:00 pm today (12/19)

While the winter solstice doesn’t officially arrive in Menlo Park this year until 3:38 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 21, you can commemorate the longest night of the year at 5:00 pm today (12/19) at a community worship service in the style of Taizé, which will be held at Trinity Church (corner of Ravenswood and Laurel.)

Explains the Rev. Frannie Kieschnick, senior associate rector at Trinity: “For some, this service offers an opportunity to take a breath before Christmas is upon us.  For others, it is a time to acknowledge that the Christmas season can be a difficult time for many people for a lot of reasons.”

As we’ve traveled to the ecumenical community of Taizé annually the past four years, we’re featuring a photo (top) of the inside of the community’s Church of the Reconciliation, which sits on a hill in Southern Burgundy. Sue Nixon, who lives near Taizé, recently wrote a blog post about the Brother’s new Nativity scene. All this to prove, “Yes Virginia, there really is a Taizé.
