Kickstarter campaign in final stretch to raise money for Nikola Tesla statue by Menlo Park artist Terry Guyer

Update: Terry sent us this news on June 2: “The Statue of Nikola Tesla in the Silicon Valley has been funded! Now I get to sculpt the 7ft clay version ready for lost wax casting in bronze. Dorrian Porter did a fantastic job of promoting our Kickstarter fundraising campaign. It looked hopeless with $35,000 funding still needed and only 90 minutes left when 4 big donations came in and put us over the top.”
We received this email from Menlo Park artist Terry Guyer, who we profiled in August 2011:
“I am now the artist for the proposed life-sized Nikola Tesla bronze statue in Palo Alto.
“The drawing and 2ft. maquette (clay scale model) are finished (see photo). The fundraising effort by Dorrian Porter of Northern Imagination is on Kickstarter.
“We are less than four days away from the end. We have about 390 backers and have raised $54,000 of the $123,000 needed. As you know, no funding is received for a Kickstarter project unless fully funded.
“Several of our backers are young people who are passionate about Nikola Tesla but can’t afford to contribute much.
“If you believe it is a good idea to honor Nikola Tesla in the Silicon Valley, or know anyone else that could help make this happen in these final days, it would be most appreciated.”
