Kuk Sool Won™ of Menlo Park holds food drive during month of September

Kuk Sool Won™ of Menlo Park Martial Arts and Character Development Academy  in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank is holding a non-perishable food drive for the entire month of September with a goal of collecting 450 pounds.

The 2013 Kuk Sool Won™ of Menlo Park Food Drive builds on last month’s teachings of charity, the powerful word of August, according to Chief Instructor Kristin Quintana. “With this month’s powerful word being leadership, our students are taking the lead and placing a barrel for the public to join them in collecting the three barrels that is their goal,” she said.

The collection point will be the main lobby of the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center. “We also have a challenge from one of our parent,” said Kristin. “If we met our goal of three full barrels, they will donate an extra $1,000 to Second Harvest!”

Non-perishable, protein-rich foods such as peanut butter, granola bars and tuna fish are examples of items suitable for donation.

“You don’t have to be a Kuk Sool Won™ student to participate in this food drive; we urge everyone to participate,” Kristin said. “In these times it’s not just who we traditionally think of as the poor who need food, it is our friends and neighbors who are out of work and are struggling to get by.”

Food Drive Update: So far we’ve filled just about two barrels! We’re on target to hit our goal of THREE BARRELS. Thank you to everyone who has helped us so far!

It’s not too late to donate. Drop by the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center any time by September 30. The barrel is in the lobby.
