“Dine Out” on October 15 – and help feed seniors in San Mateo County

by Contributed Content on October 7, 2013

On Tuesday, October, 15, participating restaurants in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties will donate a percentage of the day’s sales to support Menlo Park-based Peninsula Volunteers, Inc.’s Meals on Wheels program that feeds local homebound seniors.

PVI’s Meals on Wheels program delivers over 130,000 hot nutritious meals per year to those in need, over half of them in their own homes. In addition to the meal, each day homebound seniors receive safety/wellness checks.  Meals on Wheels drivers are often the only human contact the homebound senior has that day.

The recession, along with state and local budget cuts, has caused a dramatic reduction in funding of safety net services for frail and low income seniors. At the same time, food and transportation costs are escalating. The result is that PVI’s Meals on Wheels program has received more requests than ever for services.

Participating Menlo Park restaurant include Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria, Carpaccio (Dinner Only), Celia’s Mexican Restaurant, El Cerrito Mexican Restaurant, Luttickens After 5, Menlo Grill, Menlo Hub, and Round Table Pizza

A list of participating restaurants in neighboring cities is available online.
