Numerous locally-based organizations are taking part in Silicon Valley Gives on May 6

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of community foundations, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation will raise money for area nonprofits through a single online donation platform for 24 hours on May 6, starting at midnight tonight, an effort called Silicon Valley Gives.

Donors can choose from hundreds of non-profit organizations, making their donations via Razoo, a crowdfunding site for causes. The minimum contribution is $10. You can search by name, keyword, or zip code for organizations, which are also divided into distinct categories.

Many corporations and businesses are matching dollar-for-dollar the amount donors give to specific organizations, up to a certain amount. The complete list of matching options is online.

These Menlo Park and Atherton organizations are participating; donations can be made at any time but will be processed on May 6:

Art in Action provides ways for schools to deliver a complete art curriculum — through training teachers, parent volunteers and others, who may have no experience with art but a passion to help provide art to their community. $30,000 matching grant from Anonymous ($25,000) and the Charles B. Kuhn Memorial Fund ($5,000).

The Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula helps at-risk youth develop the academic and life skills they need to complete high school and be ready for college and career. $2,000 matching grant from Microsoft.

The mission of Computers for Everyone (CFE) is to enable the underserved communities of East Palo Alto and east Menlo Park access to the digital world through affordable education, equipment, connectivity, and support.

The mission of the east Menlo Park-based Crime Prevention Narcotics Drugs Educational Center is the eradication of substance abuse, crime, and child abuse both locally and nationally.

The Friends of the Library supports enhanced Menlo Park Library programs, special events, resources, and materials for children and adults, including storytelling hours for children, teen events, summer reading programs, special monthly events for adults, and adult literacy programs.

Global Women’s Leadership Network prepares women to step into positions of leadership and transform world conditions for women and girls.

InnVision Shelter Network (IVSN) is dedicated to helping homeless families and individuals return to self-sufficiency and permanent housing.

JobTrain helps those most in need reclaim their lives from poverty and unemployment through skills and employment training.

Kenya Help is a foundation designed to support high school and university education for girls in Kenya.

The Las Lomitas Education Foundation supports smaller class sizes, enhanced curriculum and educational excellence.

Funds raised by the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation will support the MPAEF Endowment, which is solely dedicated to fostering academic excellence, especially in areas of writing, math, science and music through professional development. Matching options are available during the hours of 12:00 am, 7:00 am, 8:00 am, 12:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm if a donation is made through PayPal.

Menlo Atherton High School Foundation for the Future supports academic excellence, collaborative learning, life-changing opportunities, creative exploration and bright futures. There is a dollar for dollar match up to $35,000 from 7:00 to 7:59 am made possible by the Knight Foundation ; a $2.00 for $1.00 match up to $50,250 from 6:00 to 6:59 pm ($50,000 from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and $2,500 from the Leonard C. and Mildred F. Ferguson Foundation); a dollar for dollar match up to $50,000 from 7:00 to 7:59 pm made possible by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

M-A Partnership for Success is at project of the Menlo Atherton High School Foundation for the Future which provides comprehensive on-site support for at-risk students using a community school approach to closing the opportunity gap.

The Menlo Park Historical Association (MPHA) was organized in 1971 to collect, preserve, and disseminate the history of Menlo Park.

The mission of the Menlo Park Library Foundation is to develop a private endowment to supplement the Library’s resources for the enhancement of facilities, services, and programs.

Peninsula Bridge promotes academic and personal success for motivated middle school students from under-resourced communities. There is $2,500 in matching dollars.

Peninsula Volunteers, Inc., has led the nation in developing programs, properties and services to support the welfare of seniors, including running a Meals on Wheels program.

Project Read – Menlo Park Literacy Partners supports Project Read’s mission to enable adults to improve their basic literacy skills.

The Riekes Center for Human Enhancement offers programs in athletic fitness, creative arts, and nature awareness. $7,500 matching grant from anonymous donor.

The Ravenswood Education Foundation funds summer learning programs, teaching training and enrichment classes for students attending school in eastern Menlo Park and East Palo Alto. There is a $50,000 matching grant from the Sobrato Family Foundation.

Two Menlos,  a project of the Menlo Park Historical Association (MPHA), exists to support the friendship agreement signed last October between the City of Menlo Park and Galway City, Ireland.  Note: technically your donation is to MPHA, but by giving to the Two Menlos project, it will be kept separate.
