The Rotary Club of Menlo Park and Facebook co-hosted a Book Giveaway Day at the Belle Haven Community Garden last Saturday. Gently used books for ages 1 to 18 were given out to all children who attended the event.

About 2,000 books were donated by local residents, Rotary club members, their friends and neighbors, the Menlo Park Main Library, and the Belle Haven Library. Over 100 local residents and their children attended the event to either donate books or pick out books.

All the books that were not given away will be brought to the Boys & Girls Clubs, the Ravenswood School District and the East Palo Alto Academy High School. These organizations had expressed their needs for books.

Facebook provided food catered by the Tacos el gondo food truck. One of the Rotary club members brought his band to provide music entertainment. Eastside Prep High School’s Interact Club (Rotary at the high school level) provided face painting and games for the children.

“This is truly a community collaboration event! We are grateful to have so many caring residents and organizations in our community wanting to help those with a need for books,” said Michelle Tsui, President of the Rotary Club of Menlo Park.
