Angel Heart Cakes

There’s a changing of the guard at Angel Food Cakes, the bakery started by Menlo Park residents Debbie Humphreys (left) and Chris Rivera (right) who were first profiled on InMenlo in 2010. They’ve sold their Marsh Manor bakery to Tal Waizer (center), who will be taking over on December 1. All three will be on hand that day from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm to say goodbye to customers and introduce Tal, who moved to the Bay Area from Israel in 2007.

It was in her native country that she learned to bake, taking pastry classes from Chef Oren Giron. In 2010, the mother of three school-age children opened her pastry business, Eva Sweets, which will be the new name of the bakery.

“My plan is to keep many of the Angel Heart favorites while introducing my European-style desserts and pastries,” said Tal. These include such things as rugelach, a pecan walnut caramel tart and Basque cake.

For Debbie and Chris, it’s a whole new chapter in their lives. “I’m going to spend more time thinking about my home and spending time in the garden,” said Debbie. “Maybe I’ll offer my services to my son’s new business and also take some classes. Plus do some traveling with my husband.”

For Chris, the first two words that come to mind are “sleep” and “yoga.” “I also want to get my French back and plan to take a class. Then there’s the chance to reconnect with friends. And maybe figure out what’s the next thing I’m gong to do!”
