Earlier this month, Rebuild Hope, a local nonprofit founded by Menlo Park resident Dana Hendrickson, was honored at a ceremony led by First Lady Michele Obama on the southeast lawn of the White House that celebrated 20 non-profits selected as finalists in the Joining Forces Community Challenge. A total of 300 organizations were evaluated for their contributions in improving the lives of military families.

“While Rebuild Hope need seeks nor expects recognition, it is wonderful, especially when it comes from our nation’s leaders,” wrote Dana on the organization’s website.

The evening before, the 20 finalists joined Dr. Jill Biden and General Martin E. Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at a reception at the Pentagon. (Pictured with Dr. Biden are Dana and his wife, Lisa Hendrickson).

Rebuild Hope helps returning veterans from Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) get back on their feet financially by connecting donors to beneficiaries and providing complementary services that increase the veterans odds of success.
