Farmer’s market

The fruits and vegetables of the summer are fast disappearing, being replaced by fall bounty at Menlo Park’s Farmers Market. Mellody Ranch of Watsonville is a year-round vendor; loyal customers arrive early to buy farm fresh chicken and duck eggs. On this rainy morning, they were also lined up to buy the Ranch’s robust variety of apples: Red Delicious, Mutzu, Black Twig, Rome, Gala, Pippin, Granny Smith, Jonathan, Macintosh and Summerfeld.

Two stalls down, it was about grapes, including Concord, Thompson, Crimson and, fittingly enough Autumn Royal.

In other local market news, Webb Ranch, which usually closes at Halloween is extending its opening hours through Tuesday, Nov. 9, featuring a season ending clearance sale. All items (except orchids) are 25% off with a Harvest Card. That includes produce, oils, vinegars and nuts. Santa’s Village will open this year on Nov. 26.
