Foster’s Freeze Menlo Park

What has been feared for a decade appears to be imminent. After over 50 years in business, Foster’s Freeze on Oak Grove Avenue in Menlo Park will close on September 30.

Foster Freeze 1966Along with Johnny’s Smoke Shop next door, Foster’s was the place to hang out for high school kids in the 60s. The parking lot was often awash in a sea of cool cars.

When we talked to owner Sung Lee in 2011, he noted the drop off in business when M-A closed its campus for lunch. The iconic seller of soft serve ice cream has long been threatened by redevelopment along that stretch of Oak Grove between El Camino and the train tracks.
