Santa and child at Salvatierra neighborhood party

For years, one of the big trees in Fremont Park in downtown Menlo Park was graced with multiple strings of Christmas lights. That ended with budget cuts and energy crises, but there are some neighborhood trees that keep the tradition going.

Pam and Oscar Salvatierra not only light a big tree in the front yard of their west Menlo Park home, they host a neighborhood tree lighting party. Emails Pam:

“This is the fourth year we’ve had the party.  We do it because we love our neighborhood and believe that it is important to cherish and promote community.

“This joyous celebration lets neighbors hang out and get to know each other. We love the happy spirit of the season and the generous good will it brings out in people.

“We support the Fire Department’s food and toy drive, and I can say neighbors were very generous this year and we are be proud of our donations.

” I think this was our greatest neighborhood holiday get together yet!  Santa was at his best and his elves were in great spirit! ”

Do you have a big Christmas tree in your neighborhood? Tell us about it, and send a photo to tips@inmenlo.com.
