Look out for motorized scooters
Anyone darting around Menlo on a motorized scooter – beware – or at least be lawful. Based on recent reports of unsafe operations of said scooters – defined as a “a two-wheeled device that has handlebars and a floorboard designed to be stood on while riding and is powererd by an electric motor or other power source” – the Menlo Park Police Department has issued an alert to riders and parents of potential riders with reminders about to stay within the law. Bottom line: Have a valid driver’s license and wear a bicycle helmet. And don’t carry another passenger nor ride on the sidewalk – and use the bike lane when available. There’s also been a proliferation of knee scooters spotted around town – and while they take up a fair bit of space, they’re not motorized.
