Police Chief Bruce Goitia is retiring after 28 years with the Menlo Park Police Department, effective June 1, 2010.

“Our Police Department is not only highly regarded by our own community, but across the Peninsula as an exceptionally effective, well trained and extremely responsive department,” said City Manager Glen Rojas. “I appreciate the contributions that Bruce has made to this success over the years and his dedication to a safe community.”

Goitia started working at the Menlo Park Police Department in 1982 as a records clerk and has served as a police officer, traffic officer, traffic sergeant, detective sergeant and commander before becoming police chief in 2006.

A national search for Mr. Goitia’s replacement is already underway and will include interview panels of city employees and community members. Applications will be accepted through April 23 and Rojas hopes to identify a replacement by June 1.
