Two M-A students awarded scholarships by the Peninsula College Fund

Two Menlo-Atherton High School graduates, Quinntesha Simpson and Gonzalo Alvarez, received college scholarships from the Peninsula College Fund. Quinntesha will attend Cal State University Monterey Bay and Gonzalo, UC Santa Cruz.

The Peninsula College Fund’s mission is to partner with and aid motivated, gifted and traditionally under-represented minority students from the Midpeninsula in their quest for a college education. The Fund gave scholarships to 33 students from 2003 to 2009. According to Fund spokesman Charles Schmuck, each student receives an average of $3,000 a year for four years.

An awards ceremony will be held Saturday, June 19, at 5:00 pm at Menlo School in Atherton; U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier will speak.
