M-A students respond big to Willow Oaks mentor call
Willow Oaks parent Aaron Oro alerted InMenlo that the call to Menlo-Atherton High School students to serve as mentors for Willow Oaks kids netted terrific response.
“We are currently finished recruiting mentors as we received an overwhelming interest of 60 plus students,” he said in an email. “They will be tutoring at Willow Oaks Elementary School this year on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the after-school program. We have three to four M-A students serving in each grade (3rd through 6th) as well as seven to eight M-A students tutoring in grade 7/8.
“Our goal is to enhance the learning environment in the Ravenswood School District by incorporating Menlo-Atherton High School students as role models and mentors to elementary school students. I started the program last year after winter holidays and both the M-A mentors and Willow Oaks after-school students have benefited from the experience.”
Sounds like congratulations are in order to all involved!
