Menalto Station businesses collecting food and necessities for Clara Mateo Alliance Shelter

by Linda Hubbard on December 13, 2010

The community businesses of Menalto Station in the Willows neighborhood are working together to make the holidays brighter for the residents of the Clara Mateo Alliance Shelter. The goal is to serve  Christmas dinner and to stock the shelter with everyday necessities, helping the over 100 people who require assistance from the shelter year round.

The Christmas day menu includes: roast turkey & ham, white & sweet potatoes, macaroni & cheese/pasta salad, vegetable dishes & mixed green salad, dessert. The Menalto businesses request that if you are already baking or cooking a Christmas dinner, that you make extra portions or donate pre-cooked purchased food – enough to serve 10-12 people.

If you are not cooking or will be out of town, they are accepting cash donations to purchase basic everyday supplies that the shelter needs, which include five single and five double mattresses.

Stop by Cafe Zoe to let owner Kathleen Daly know what you can contribute by December 24, 2010 or respond by email to cafezoemenlopark@gmail.com. Emails Kathleen: “Cafe Zoë will be open Christmas morning to accept the food donations and will make all the arrangements to deliver and serve the dinner. Interested in volunteering on December 25? We may be able to use your help!”
