Youth Lacrosse Day at M-A on Sunday, March 20

by Linda Hubbard on March 19, 2011

Sunday update from Jeff Kangas: “The Youth Lacrosse Day planned at Menlo Atherton High School for 2:00-4:30pm today, Sunday March 20, has been postponed due to inclement weather.   We will still play the youth lacrosse game against the San Francisco Tigers at 3:30pm at the turf stadium field, but all other festivities for today have been canceled due to weather. We are looking to reschedule the event to another day this spring.”

The Menlo Atherton Youth Lacrosse Club will host its inaugural Youth Lacrosse Day on Sunday, March 20,  at Menlo Atherton High School.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to introduce our new Club and the sport of lacrosse to more of the families in our local area,” said Club President Jeff Kangas (pictured with kids at a clinic held earlier this year).  “We’ll have opportunities for kids to try out lacrosse; college players will be on hand to sign autographs; we’ll be giving away t-shirts and raffling off lacrosse sticks; and much more.”

The day will be capped off with the Menlo Atherton Grizzlies lacrosse team playing a regular season game against the San Francisco Tigers Lacrosse Club. Kangas acknowledged that the weather may alter plans. “As of now, we are still on for Sunday,” he said via email.  “Since we are playing the game on artificial turf, we will likely play it, regardless of weather. We will make a call on Sunday morning related to the other events planned for the day.”

The Menlo Atherton Youth Lacrosse Club, (mascot is the Grizzlies) is the newest addition to the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association’s roster of Bay Area youth lacrosse clubs. In its first year of operation, the Club has over 70 young lacrosse players ranging from ages 5 – 11 playing on four different boys and girls teams.  The Club plans to grow its teams next year and is eager to promote the sport of lacrosse to all local families.

The Youth Lacrosse Day begins at 2:00 pm in the turf stadium at Menlo Atherton High School.  Mini-clinics and instruction will be offered from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. The game against the San Francisco Tigers will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.  For more information, visit the Club’s website.
