Update: Laurel Drive Less Challenge progress report

by Linda Hubbard on May 2, 2011

Drive Less Challenge volunteer Leah Strichartz of Menlo Park sent InMenlo an update about Laurel School’s participation in the effort to use alternative methods of getting to school:

“Here’s a photo a parent took of the full bike rack at Laurel school on Friday for the kick off of the “Laurel Drive Less Challenge”.  Parent volunteers gave out over 240 green ribbons to kids who walked, biked, carpooled, or took the bus to school that day.  The turn out was fantastic – much bigger than I expected – and I loved seeing the kids so excited about walking and biking to school.

“The Laurel Drive Less Challenge is a friendly competition between the classrooms which continues through this Thursday.  Kids sign in on a special chart each morning if they’ve walked, biked, carpooled, or taken the bus.  I’ll tally the results just for fun to see which class drove the least.”
