City of Menlo Park selects new Business Development Manager
Menlo Park City Manager Alex McIntyre announced today that Jim Cogan of San Jose will begin work as Menlo Park’s Business Development Manager on Monday, December 17. Cogan is currently Government Relations Representative for PG & E, where he has worked since 2011. He replaces David Johnson who retired last year.
“Jim is a proven advocate for large and small businesses and brings a broad range of skills to this position,” said McIntyre. “He has managed policy initiates affecting business entities and is skilled at coordinating the often competing interests of diverse stakeholders to find common ground. We are confident he will continue the tradition of excellence we have built in Menlo Park and will be a tremendous addition to the City’s executive management team.”
Cogan was previously Chief of Staff to several San Jose Council Members between 2007 and 2010 as well as a paralegal for law firms in Menlo Park and Chicago. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Wheaton College in Illinois and also serves on the Foster City Chamber of Commerce and on the Policy Committee for the San Mateo County Economic Development Association.
“I am excited about quickly developing strong relationships with the business community of Menlo Park,” said Cogan. “Menlo Park has great momentum thanks to the extraordinary efforts to attract Facebook, and it will be my goal to work with the business community, City staff and the Council to maintain the momentum. I am proud to be part of the Menlo Park team.”
Mr. Cogan’s annual salary will be $108,000 per year and he will join the group of employees hired under the reduced 2% at 60 retirement plan adopted last year by the City Council.
