Menlo Police Department issues crime alert due to increase in residential burglaries

by Contributed Content on February 7, 2013

The Menlo Park Police Department issued  the following crime trend notification for our residents today:.

“We have seen a slight increase in residential burglaries over the last two weeks. A noticeable trend seems to have developed in that it appears subjects are going door to door during daytime hours checking to see if the resident is home. If the resident answers the door, the subject uses a ruse by posing as a concerned pet owner looking for their lost dog or posing as PG&E employees. If the resident is not home, the subjects look for an open window or unlocked door to access; however, there have been occasion where the garage door had been pried open.

“We are asking that our residents lock all doors and windows when leaving their house. Further, we recommend that you get to know your neighbors and stay alert of people coming and going within your neighborhood. Lastly, we ask that any suspicious activity be called into the Menlo Park Police Department immediately. The non-emergency number is (650) 330-6317 and if the crime is in progress, call 9-1-1.”
