Mixed media art show opens at Menlo College

by Darcy Blake on April 14, 2013

The works of 49 Menlo College students — blue tape art, black-and-white collages, and color paintings — are on display in the college’s Administration building.

“It’s really nice to see the different talents that our students have and the way they expressed themselves through their art projects,” said Yasmin Lambie-Simpson, Dean of Student Affairs.

“I wanted to make my recreation of Starry Night Over the Rhone identifiable as a Van Gough, but to also give my own interpretation of the piece,” said Andrew Dahlkemper, who created a blue tape art piece for the exhibition (photo above). “I enjoyed experimenting with how to give the piece texture by layering the tape for the water. The stars were especially strenuous to create, but I am pleased with the flow created by their placement and direction, as well as the use of the recycled stars above the bordered section.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm  through late July. Menlo College is located at 1000 El Camino Real in Atherton.
