Pharmaceutical drop box at Little House in Menlo Park allows residents to safely dispose of legal drugs

The City of Menlo Park and Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. have partnered to place a pharmaceutical drop box at the Little House Activity Center located at Nealon Park (800 Middle Avenue). Residents can place any unused or unwanted legal drugs into the receptacle and they will be properly disposed of. Little House’s hours of operation are Mondays through Thursdays from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm and Fridays 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
“Many residents know that they cannot flush or throw away their old medications because it can negatively impact water and soil quality, causing problems for people and wildlife, however, there was not a local location in Menlo Park to take these medications,” said Rebecca Fotu, Environmental Programs Manager for the City.
When improperly discarded, pharmaceuticals can seep into the water stream and create an environmental hazard. The drop box at Little House makes it easier for residents to dispose of their presciption drugs safely.
“The box has only been here for a week and a half and it’s already almost full,” said Little House Director Peter Olson.
