Volunteers sought for coastal clean up day in Menlo Park on Sept. 21

The City of Menlo Park is asking for volunteers to help clean up local waterways by participating in the 29th California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9:00 am to Noon. There are two clean up areas in Menlo Park: San Francisquito Creek at Alma St. and East Creek (contact Dr. Susan Stansbury, 650-330-6720, susans@acterra.org) and Bedwell Bayfront Park, edge of San Francisco Bay at Highway 101 and Marsh Rd. (contact Davena Gentry, 650-475-2012, davena@serenogroup.com).
Menlo is just one of 800 locations statewide. The clean up, which is sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, is the largest single effort to remove debris that has accumulated on beaches and inland shorelines over the past year. In 2012, over 65,000 volunteers removed almost 770,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from California’s beaches, lakes, and waterways.
