In November, the Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park is presenting “Local Color” — new pastel and oil paintings of the Monterey and San Francisco Peninsulas, as well as other recent works, by artist Jan Prisco. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

Capturing the diverse natural beauty around her, Jan paints plein air at locations that range from the oak covered hills of the San Francisco Peninsula, to the dahlia fields of Half Moon Bay, to the breathtaking ocean views of the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur. She will be unveiling 15 new paintings during the month of November at Portola Art Gallery.

While pursuing a career in high tech sales, Jan spent many of her spare hours cultivating her love of painting by studying oil and pastel from the leading artists and teachers in the Bay Area. Now retired, Jan teaches pastel painting at Allied Arts, oil/acrylic painting for a local school district, and portraiture and figure painting to watercolorists. She has received numerous recognitions as an artist, most recently as Featured Artist by the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

Also at the Gallery, located in the Allied Arts Guild, through December, artists will be participating in the group theme, “Fall Splendor.” Visitors will enjoy each artist’s unique interpretation of this colorful transitional season.
