MPPD releases names in officer-involved shooting
The Menlo Park Police Department released the following statement this afternoon:
“In an effort to provide the public with pertinent information regarding the officer-involved shooting, we are releasing the names of the officers involved in Tuesday’s incident.
“Menlo Park Police Sergeant Jaime Romero and two police officers, Scott Mackdanz and Nicholas Douglas, were involved in the shooting incident on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. These officers have many years of experience and are considered veteran police officers. Sergeant Romero has 18 years, Officer Mackdanz has 16 years, and Officer Douglas has 11 years as a police officer.
“All three officers are on administrative leave, as is the protocol for all officer-involved shooting investigations. Their administrative leave does not constitute, or indicate, any wrongdoing and is customary in this type of investigation.
“The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office is the lead investigator in this case per our San Mateo County protocol. It is the Menlo Park Police Department’s intent to be as transparent as possible, however, because this incident is an active investigation we are limited to the type of information that can be released. Any further request for information should be requested through the District Attorney’s Office.”
