Three Menalto Corners businesses raising funds for holiday dinner for local vets

On Wednesday, December 17, three Menalto Corners businesses — Cafe Zoë, Habibi’s Salon, and Spa in the Park — will once again host a holiday dinner for the military veterans who are hospitalized at the local VA hospital. Last year’s event was “heartwarming, emotional, and, most importantly, appreciated by the veterans who received dinner, gift bags, and personalized gifts”, emails Cafe Zoë owner Kathleen Daly.

The three businesses are accepting cash donations so that they can purchase a catered dinner and gifts.

“Last year we packed and delivered gift bags that included T-shirts, socks, briefs, flannel shirts, sweatshirts, toiletries and slippers,” says Kathleen. “All 50 veterans received a bag.

“In addition we were able to purchase each veteran a personalized gift. For one veteran, we replaced a pair of old shoes that had been duct-taped together, for another it was a outdoor jacket because he did not own one, for another a warm-up suit, for another a purple sweater – the list goes on.

“The dinner we served was a feast, tri-tip, roast turkey. ham, potatoes, vegetables, pies and holiday cookies decorated by our junior volunteers. A local Brownie troop donated hand made holiday cards.”
