Linda Salter’s oil still life paintings are featured at Portola Art Gallery in March
Linda Salter is the featured artist in March at the Portola Art Gallery which is presenting a collection of her oil still life paintings in an exhibit called “In a Classical Mood.” A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, March 7 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
Salter enjoys painting a variety of subjects across an array of mediums; but when it comes to still life paintings, she is drawn to oils. She explains: “I love to create the sense of a classical still life painting, and no medium can do this like oils. Whether using vivid colors or a limited palette, I’m excited by the play of light and shadow that I can achieve in an oil painting done in a classical style.”
The artist has exhibited and received awards at community and college art shows. She has also exhibited solo at Avenue 25 Gallery in San Mateo and Esalen Institute in Big Sur.
Salter spent more than three decades as an instructor and administrator in California colleges, serving as president of Skyline College in San Bruno and chancellor of West Valley-Mission Community College District in Santa Clara County. Since retiring as chancellor more than a decade ago, Linda has studied with a number of artists who teach at local colleges, as well as at Gage Academy in Seattle, Scottsdale Artists’ School, and classical ateliers in the Bay Area.
The Portola Art Gallery is located at the Allied Arts Guild on Arbor Rd. in Menlo Park.
